Ultra Reliable 300 TDI Diesel Engine

Shown here is a Defender 90 factory-built 300TDI imported from Italy which is known for its dry climate. The Defender has been in the United States for approximately 5 years. The previous owner, Roland, purchased the Defender from Car Cave in June of 2020. Since then it has lived life in the mountains of Arizona near Tonto National Forest. Roland only put about 6500 miles on the Defender in the last 4.5 years but took great care of it. Maintenance during his possession include an Alisport uprated intercooler, uprated aluminum radiator, turbo, and power steering. A great Defender with a known history of impeccable reliability and drivability. We were glad to welcome this Defender back into inventory.

This 1994 Land Rover 90 300 TDI Station Wagon shown in Alpine White (LRC 456), with charcoal vinyl interior. The Defender has Bearmach Blue +50mm medium duty coil springs that provides about 2” of lift. When the lift was installed, it included new insulators, shocks, heavy duty turrets, bushings, rear bump stops, and extended Stainless Steel brake lines. A Bilstein steering stabilizer has been installed for better ride quality which is hidden behind the front skid plate. These springs provide approximately 2” of lift height to fit the 265/75R16 BFG All Terrain Tires nicely in the wheel wells on 16” black steel wheels. Exterior lamps and headlights were improved and replaced with modern LEDs providing a lower power consumption and long service life. The interior was upgraded with a bulkhead removal kit and extended seat rails for added driver comfort. Removing the top bulkhead section and the raised seating position allows the taller drivers significantly more leg room and recline. A lockable Tuffy Center Console is located between the front seats which is a worthy and solid upgrade. An additional transmission tunnel console with dual cupholders and catch tray was added for additional storage. Cargo load space features a Land Rover OEM rubber mat with a rear Mud UK door card.

Factory built with the solid and reliable 300TDI 2.5L Turbo Diesel engine and R380 5 Speed manual transmission. The 300TDI diesel engine runs properly and 5-Speed manual transmission shifts correctly through the gears. We completed a mechanical review and found the Defender to be mechanically sound. The previous owner really took care of this Defender and tended to any issues that came up. Recent maintenance performed by Car Cave includes an bleeding the clutch, valve cover gasket, adjusting the valves, oil change, oil filter, U-joints, and replacing the door hinges.

Here at Car Cave, we regularly drive our inventory and clock an average of several hundred test miles (sometimes even several thousand) on each Defender. This unit is well sorted mechanically and has been taken care of by the previous owner.
