This Left-Hand Drive 1987 Toyota Hilux features a 2.2L Petrol with a 5-speed manual transmission and 2 speed transfer case. Originally delivered new to the Middle East and stayed there it’s whole life until recently imported by Car Cave. The body tag indicates this spec was specific to the “ME” or Middle East market. Factory built as a DLX model with the 4Y engine and double cab as a CBU or completely built unit. More than likely this truck started life as a fleet vehicle. The Hilux is finished in basic Toyota white (color code 033) with reupholstery blue bench seats and door cards.

Power comes from a 2.2-liter Inline-4 petrol paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, two-speed transfer case. The ultra-reliable 4Y is a 2,237 cc carbureted gas engine typically used for industrial applications. We bolted up a new Weber Type 32/36 carb, drained the fuel, spark plugs, and fuel filter. Now it purrs like a kitten.

Toyota had three basic concepts for the fourth generation Hilux; power, sturdiness, and comfort. We believe simplicity is also a key to this truck’s longevity. These trucks are simple to service with fewer features to fail. Premium equipment and full featured options on these trucks was rather limited but you could drive it to hell and back! This one did include factory AC but is currently not working. Standard options are extensive with windshield wipers, seat belts, dual bench seats, and turn signals. The gauge cluster does have a full complement of gauges with speedometer, temperature, and fuel. Four 16” chrome wheels are wrapped in set of 245/75R16 Dunlop Grandtrek AT3 tires.
