The E39 BMW M5 is considered one of the Bavarian brand's Ultimate Driving Machines, defining BMW's peak era of performance sedans. It was the bar that all other OEMs used for their performance sedans, from Germany to the United States, Italy to Austrailia. Since then, the 5-series has bloated and diluted itself by comparison to the experience of pushing the E39 M5 along its performance envelope. Nothing in BMW's current stable is quite like the E39 M5's recipe for backroads and highways.

Purchased in 2025 by a friend of Car Cave’s, this vehicle has had 4 owners. The vehicle was bought in New York before being sold to the second owner, who regularly serviced the vehicle for 17 years, bringing it from New York to Florida and finally to Georgia. The vehicle was sold in 2018, and the records clearly show that this M5 was doted on. Although some damage was noted in 2018, the proliferation of service records detail the care (over $14,000 worth of work) that was given to restore this vehicle to its appropriate glory.

Old-school tech brings nostalgia in full force. The built-in BMW MKII Navigation computer is still accessible to update via CD-ROM in the trunk, and the screen features prominently on the dashboard. This is also the access point for the BMW 6 CD changer. Also, if you’re still slinging a Motorola V50, connect and control your call through the dashboard. The suite of futuristic technology is completed with the BMW universal garage door opener.
