We love the color combination of this previously restored T2 in Neptune Blue (Volkswagen color L50K/ J6). The paint perfectly contrasts with the white accented bumpers, steel wheels with painted center caps, and beige interior. The 1600cc engine purrs like a kitten and the 4-speed transmission shifts properly. Car Cave cycled this beauty through our shop to ensure that it's ready to hit the road.

An absolutely iconic piece of history, this Type 2 Volkswagen is sure to draw eyes and sighs wherever you take it. Originally, this vehicle came in a variety of different configurations including this Camioncino, as it was called in Italy - the single-cab pick-up truck. This variation of the T2 is functional, classic, and beautiful. The same T2 body was used to make a double-cab pick-up and the iconic Volkswagen bus. After 1971, these VW Transporters became rare in the US market due to the Chicken Tax.

The pick-up bed has three fold-down sides and is 9 feet long by 16 inches tall. Both the tail gate and the back of the cab have small hooks, perfect for tying down heavy loads. The rear of the vehicle also hides under-bed storage on both sides and allows easy access to the engine underneath the bed. The single cab is clean and simple. A beige bench seat sits three with plenty of legroom, and the patterned vinyl is straight out of the seventies. A spare tire tucks underneath the bench, and a locking glove box is the perfect place to store necessities. One of the coolest features is the underbed compartment for additional storage. When the VW showed up at our shop we found a surprise in the storage compartment: A bicycle!

We believe that this vehicle was originally a farm truck in Italy until it was imported in 2021 to the US, after which it spent some time in California. Eventually returning to South Carolina, this beauty was kept in a garage until being brought to Car Cave. The original American owner stated it was repainted and restored in Italy before coming across the Atlantic. The dual port engine starts easily and runs strong. The T2 had been in storage for a brief amount of time so we replaced the fuel filter, battery terminal, spark plugs, distributor, Ultrasonic cleaned the Weber Carb and performed a complete rebuild. The 185R14 Hankook Vantra LT tires have excellent tread depth and KYB shocks have been recently installed. The vehicle does convey with the two original service manuals from 1973.
