Rare Factory Caledonian Blue

Car Cave sourced this beautiful Defender from the dry climate of Italy where it was in the hands of a private owner. This beautifully finished Caledonian Blue (Land Rover Code LRC507) contrasts off a white roof. The body was straight and overall condition is outstanding with the prior owner doing a respray in the factory original colors. We mounted a set of factory 5-spoke Land Rover alloy wheels with 265/75R16 BFG All Terrain tires to accent the look, including contrasting white letters. The interior is very original with a combination of black and gray. We did replace the headliner, as like with a lot of Land Rovers, it was starting to sag. A complete mechanical review was completed once it was received at Car Cave shop in Aiken, SC. The Defender did not need much as the previous owner kept it in great condition. The Td5 engine runs exceptionally well with plenty of power which suggests the previous owner made some performance modifications that are not identifiable from visual inspection.

What is the Td5 you ask? The Td5 was released by Land Rover in 1998 to meet stricter emissions standards. This was a ground-up redevelopment of a Land Rover’s diesel engine code named Project Storm. The freshly redesigned 2.5L (2498 cc) Inline-5 cylinder Garrett turbo charged cast iron diesel featured electronic injection. Still not enough power? The Defender showed up in great condition and the body has all the factory spot welds with a well done recent respray. Kirk (one of our highly skilled mechanics) went through the Defender mechanically with approximately $7000 of work completed since arriving in the US. The maintenance included new tires, rear a-frame ball joint, hazard switch, brake lamp switch, gauge cluster lights, fuel filter, oil filter, turbo oil return line, turbo gasket, oil change, and wipers. We replaced all the gearbox fluids including front differential, rear differential, transmission, and transfer box with Amsoil fluids.
