1963 Land Rover Series IIA 109 5-Door Left Hand Drive

2.25L Petrol – Tropical Roof – Safari Doors – Elephant Hide Interior

Finished in Bronze Green with a contrasting Limestone tropical roof and color-matched wheels, this 1963 Land Rover Series IIA 109 Station Wagon is a long-wheelbase, five-door icon that blends rugged capability with timeless British charm. A tasteful mechanical restoration and a classy color combination make this example stand out, while maintaining its heritage as one of the most versatile utility vehicles of its era.

A body-off-frame repaint was completed approximately five years ago in the original Bronze Green, finished in base and clear coat. It shows honest imperfections that any seasoned Land Rover enthusiast would expect, complemented by a subtle patina earned through decades of service. All five doors were replaced under previous ownership, and Car Cave rebuilt and adjusted all hinges for proper fitment. The undercarriage and floorpans are in impressive condition for a 62-year-old vehicle, and galvanized cappings, safari-style half doors, a fold-down windscreen, and a vented tropical roof retain the truck’s original charm. And yes — those roof vents make a real difference in the rear cabin airflow!

Under the hood, the 2.25L petrol inline-four was fully rebuilt in 2023 by Ted Marsh. It runs beautifully thanks to a rebuilt Solex carburetor, new distributor, new coil, header, and fresh battery. The gearboxes were professionally rebuilt in 2022, and the drivetrain is tight and dialed in just as a proper Series Landy should be. A new exhaust was installed, and Car Cave also completed a full fluid service, brake adjustment, and hinge rebuild.

The suspension has been refreshed with new springs, shocks, and bushings, ensuring a composed ride by vintage standards. All six wheels — including the two matching spares — were chemically stripped and powder-coated in Limestone. They are now wrapped in new 245/75R16 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx Armor Tek tires, with one spare mounted on the bonnet and the other on the rear door. The chassis and underbody are clean, solid, and show no concerns.

Inside, this Series IIA features classic elephant hide vinyl upholstery on front and rear three-person bench seats. Rubber floor mats provide added durability, while restored Nisonger dash instrumentation and a functioning Smiths round heater (with upgraded Clayton core and motor) keep things functional. Lighting has been updated with new lenses, the Tex-Magna turn signal assembly works as intended, and the steering wheel was restored by Gary’s in Pennsylvania.

Additional upgrades include rebuilt wiper motors, new door seals, fully functional keyed locks, and galvanized cappings. The rear crossmember and bulkhead were repaired previously, and rear grab handles are installed. All five doors are modern replacements due to deterioration of the originals.

The odometer shows 93,000 miles, and the truck comes with a clean South Carolina title in Car Cave’s name.

Whether you’re seeking an honest driver or a clean platform to refine further, this Series IIA offers all the right elements — mechanically sorted, structurally solid, and full of vintage Land Rover character.
