This beautiful Light Ivory (Color Code 623U) Mercedes W123 300D was sold new back in 1980. The predecessor of the E Class, this 4 door is known for being solid and extremely versatile. This Saloon is a pure example of what life was in the 80’s to have a simple reliable driver. Shown here is a car in great original unrestored condition even being 43 years old. Only 2 owners with new, lots of service records available, and no signs of past wrecks. Originally delivered to Mr Holland of Jackson, MS on June 14, 1980.

The Mercedes W123 is one of the best vehicles to own for its time and still holds a strong following when it comes to value for enthusiasts. The factory OM617 diesel power plant in this Mercedes is known to go almost forever before needing a rebuild, so at 127K this old noisy gal is just getting broke-in. These cars were built to be driven with the idea simplicity is a prerequisite for reliability. The simple naturally aspirated engine is proven capable of a million miles with routine maintenance. The OM617 has been a favorite of veggie oil conversions due to the mechanical design and fuel efficiency. The fuel tank capacity of 17.2 gallons will give you an average 25 MPG around town and up to 33 MPG on the open road. Imagine doing a veggie oil conversion and smelling like fresh french fries while rolling in style down the road! You might not be the fastest car on the road, but you will have the best smelling tail pipe. A true pleasure to drive as you sit in the comfy driver’s seat cruising down the road. One of the last basic, no-frills high-volume Mercedes ever built. This car was built to stand the test of time and a long life down the road.

A W123 has so much more to offer including a reasonable price point. The 300D is easy to maintain with parts that are inexpensive and easily sourced compared to some of the European counterparts. This sedan is operated with a four-wheel independent suspension that is provides for a smooth yet agile handling. The reputation of the W123 is utterly bomb proof. With a curb weight of 3186lbs you will feel solid and safe driving the distance with up to 5 passengers. The engineers over in Deutschland built one heck of a machine which caused Mercedes to build over 2.6 million W123s. Even with that many of them sold, finding a clean example is getting harder and harder. These cars known drivability kept them in their proper place. On the road racking up miles hence the vast majority have seen many highways, back roads, and autobahns. The next owner of this 300D will have a pleasurable driving machine for many years to come.

The model we are presenting for sale does have a few factory options including an automatic transmission, cruise control, power locks, and air conditioning. The power locks (central locking) and HVAC system are not functional. Both systems are vacuum operated, and the vacuum has been disconnected to these systems. The factory 15-hole light alloy wheels are equipped with an aged set of 195/70R14 tires. The interior shows the factory original Palomino MB – Tex vinyl (Beige) seats along with matching dashboard and door panels. The dash is presented with a larger instrument panel, central round ventilation outlets, heat/air control panel and a simple single row of control switches in the center. Recent maintenance includes battery, fuel shut off solenoid repair, wipers, front passenger window regulator, vacuum system repair, vacuum pump, driver side inner tie rod, driver side outer tie rod, passenger side inner tie rod, passenger side outer tie rod.
