We can confirm it starts, drives, and stops, but it is priced accordingly—considerably lower than other Land Cruisers pickups we've sold. Why didn’t the U.S. get vehicles like the 70 Series?

We’re often asked this question. The answer lies in the 1964 tariff known as the "Chicken Tax," a 25% duty imposed on imported light trucks in response to European tariffs on American chicken imports. While most trade barriers have decreased, the Chicken Tax remains in effect, limiting the import of foreign-built small trucks.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series replaced the iconic 40 Series, known for its rugged straight-axle build, global adaptability, and off-road capability. This FZJ75, featuring the powerful 1FZ 4.5L 24-valve inline-6 engine, was sourced from the dry climate of the Middle East. The 1FZ engine, also found in the 80 Series Land Cruisers and Lexus LX450 models, delivers excellent road performance. Our 1996 Land Cruiser pickup is an ex-agency, left-hand-drive example with a removable top and fold-down windshield. The special-order "000" color code confirms its original use by the Oman government. Car Cave imported this FZJ75 from Oman in 2024.

The exterior is finished in a resprayed Toyota Beige with tri-color graphics, while the interior features light brown reupholstered cloth and gray vinyl bench seats with vinyl flooring. Factory 16-inch split-rim steel wheels are fitted with 235/85R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires. Additional factory features include air conditioning, dual fuel tanks with a sub-tank gauge, manual throttle control, integrated side steps, a sliding rear window, the original Toyota tape player, locking fuel caps, and a bed-mounted full-size spare.

Mechanically, the front axle is a straight axle with power disc brakes, and the rear axle is a 9.5-inch drum brake with a 4.111:1 gear ratio, providing a 2,200-pound payload capacity. Power steering ensures ease of maneuvering.
